Kelly finds her university through a MOOC

When the ModPo team visited the San Francisco area last fall, Kelly Liu, a local high-school senior, joined us for the webcast in Mountain View and the meet-up/collaborative close reading in San Francisco. Kelly was an avid, active participant/learner/“student” in ModPo.

Well, Kelly became very interested in the arts & humanities at Penn, applied for admission (and was supported as a candidate by us through the process), and was admitted—and, as of today, I am her Faculty Advisor for the College. And will have the honor of welcoming her to the Kelly Writers House community and to the writing scene here, and teaching her in my face-to-face classes. Could teaching get any better?

In the photo below, taken at the Center for the Book in SF, you see Kelly (at right) talking excitedly about our poem with two other ModPo regulars, Yadda and Edith.
