About DivE In Weekend
The University of Pennsylvania is holding its fourth annual diversity preview weekend in Fall 2024!
What is DiVE In?
DivE In stands for the Diversity and Equity Initiative. This initiative is geared towards serving undergraduate students from marginalized groups that are traditionally underrepresented in graduate school and involves a weekend at Penn devoted to discussing graduate school and the application process. We also have a strong focus on mentoring and networking: students get connected with a mentor, have mock interviews with Penn faculty, and have opportunities to informally network with members of the Penn community.
There are three main targets we hope to improve upon by holding this event.
1. Diversity in Mind Research
We seek to improve diversity in the fields that are related to the study of the mind, such as psychology, neuroscience, biology, linguistics, sociology, and more.
2. Diversity at University of Pennsylvania
The graduate body of Penn mindCORE-affiliated departments is lacking in diversity relative to the greater Philly community. We will improve this discrepancy by making this outreach.
3. Fill in Mentorship Gaps
Under-represented students are more likely to face gaps in effective mentorship during higher education. A major purpose of our event is to minimize this gap as much as possible.
Event Schedule
The DivE In Weekend will take place over the course of a 3-day weekend, from October 18-20, 2024.
The event will feature various presentations, workshops and panels designed to prepare students for success in graduate school. Full event schedule will be posted closer to the event start date.
