LAVA Astro

LAVA Astro

Astro is an initiative to get the Galápagos community involved with citizen science in astronomy. A star-mapping project by the International Dark-Sky Association uses citizen science from around the world to map the visible stars. Places like the Galápagos that are less affected by light pollution are especially important to this project. We are looking for an ideal location in the Galápagos for local students to participate in this project and learn techniques of astronomical observation. The pilot will include teaching guides to use telescopes, holding occasional informal viewing sessions along the Malecon, and forming an astronomy club.
