Creativity & the Quantification of Free Thought

We will quantify the imaginative creativity inherent in free thought by using sophisticated semantic analysis metrics.  We expect that these metrics will predict real-world creativity, will allow simple creativity-improving interventions, and will be easily integrated into social media platforms.

Kurt Gray

Kurt Gray

Kurt Gray is a social psychologist who studies moral judgments, including ascriptions of blame, the process of redemption and the ethics of new technology.  He received his BSc from the University of Waterloo and his Ph.D. from Harvard University.  Dr. Gray has been named a Rising Star and was awarded the Janet Spence Award for Transformative Early Career Research by the Association for Psychological Science.  He was also awarded the Theoretical Innovation Award by the Society of Personality and Social Psychology, and the Psi Chi Teaching Award for exemplary undergraduate teaching.  His work has been generously funded by the John Templeton Foundation, and he has published the journals Science, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Psychological Science and Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.  His has given two TED event talks and his work has been featured in the New York Times, Slate, Wired, Boston Globe, LA Times, and The Economist.

Mike Christian

Mike Christian

Mike Christian is an Assistant Professor of Organizational Behavior at the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School.  His research focuses on understanding how energy, engagement, self-control and other self-regulatory processes affect behavior at work. His work focuses on how these factors dynamically relate to unethical behavior as well as desirable work performance. He has published in such journals as Administrative Science Quarterly, The Academy of Management Journal, The Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Personnel Psychology and The Journal of Management.  Dr. Christian received his PhD in management from the University of Arizona, his master’s degree in industrial and organizational psychology from Tulane University and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

John Patrick

John Patrick

John Patrick is currently an Assistant Professor, Head of Voice and Speech for the Professional Actor Training Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Resident Vocal Coach for PlayMakers Repertory Company & Gulfshore Playhouse, and Co-Founder of Miller Voice Method Studio NYC. John has taught for Rutgers University, New York University, New York Film Academy, the Miller Voice Method Studio of NYC and other theater companies and schools around the country. John completed his training as a teacher of the Miller Voice Method at NYU’s Graduate Acting Program under the direction of Scott Miller, Professor of Voice. As an actor he trained under William Esper, Lloyd Richards and Deborah Hedwall at Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts where he received his MFA. He received his BFA in Acting from TCU and trained in and employs the methodologies of Dudley Knight (Erik Singer), Patricia Fletcher (Ms. Fletcher), Edith Skinner & Kristin Linklater (Margaret Loft), & Michael Chekhov (Lenard Petit). Originally from Kansas City, John is also a working actor and has appeared off-Broadway, regionally such as The Dallas Theater Center & Casa Manana, in feature films, and has shot regional and national network commercials.
