This year’s symposium investigates the benefits and challenges of FL learning and teaching in open environments. Speakers and workshop leaders will examine the reasons for why many institutions have transitioned away from traditional textbooks to Open Educational Resources (OERs) and in-house-produced materials. Language program coordinators and instructors of both commonly- and less-commonly-taught languages will describe their experiences creating their own materials and will guide workshop participants through examples of the effectiveness of these materials in the classroom.
