Dr. Qi Xiao was born in Hunan Province, China. He received his B.Sc. Degree in Chemistry in 2008 from Peking University, China. While at Peking University he performed research on conjugated dendrimers and donor-acceptor motifs for light-harvesting under the direction of Prof. Jian Pei. He completed his Ph.D. in 2014 at The University of Tokyo, Japan under the guidance of Prof. Takuzo Aida on liquid crystalline semiconducting materials with fused oligothiophenes, helical and cyclic oligothiophenes, and their helicity and aromaticity. He joined the University of Pennsylvania in the group of Prof. Virgil Percec as a postdoctoral researcher in 2014. Currently, he is a visiting scientist at University of Pennsylvania in the group of Prof. Virgil Percec, as well as a postdoctoral researcher at Temple University in the group of Prof. Michael L Klein. His present research interest is the self-assembly of biomimetic membrane systems (known as dendrimersomes and glycodendrimersomes), including the development of synthetic protocells, and glycan-protein recognition within a project of the NSF’s Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC) at the Laboratory for Research on the Structure of Matter (LRSM), University of Pennsylvania.
