Philly Ethics Bowl Article and Follow-up

More on the Philly Ethics Bowl:  The Penn Today website has an article reporting on the Ethics Bowl competition hosted at Penn on February 8th.  Please take a look! Shortly after this article went to press the winner of the bowl, the Masterman team, went on to compete in a play-off with a winner of a Baltimore-based regional bowl.  We are excited to report that Masterman won! Report from the Philadelphia High School Ethics Bowl:   We are excited to report that the inaugural Philadelphia Regional High School Ethics Bowl took place on Saturday, February 8th, 2020 at the Perry World House on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. P4Y to Present at Upcoming Philosophy of Education Conference:   Dustin Webster, Allauren Forbes, and Michael Vazquez will be presenting a panel at the Philosophy of Education Society Annual Meeting, March 6-9 in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. APA Conference Report (Part 2):   One of the great features of APA conferences is the APA-AAPT Teaching Hub sessions. The AAPT (American Association of Philosophy Teachers) is dedicated to the teaching of philosophy and the Teaching Hub at this year’s APA Eastern had a number of interesting panels. Fall 2019 Update

We are excited to renew our initiatives this year, including philosophy clubs and classes at Philadelphia schools.  We are also teaching a new TIP seminar for teachers, focused on adding philosophical/critical thinking content to lesson plans for 3-5th grades. Also new this fall is an ABCS (Acedemically Based Community Service) class for Penn undergrads that involves students in our high school ethics bowl initiative.  We are helping prepare several High School teams for participation in this rewarding extracurricular activity.

HS Ethics Bowl Workshop

On May 11th, students and staff members from Girl's High School and Mastery-Shoemaker Secondary School participated in a high school ethics bowl workshop, which took place at the Graduate School of Education (GSE) building on Penn's campus.  The workshop, organized by Dustin Webster, was designed to faciliate the students' participation in ethics bowl competitions by reviewing and discussing cases and structure of bowl matches.  A number of Penn's P4Y people have been working with the students in recent weeks and also joined in help...
