New funding supports milestone initiative to advance artificial photosynthesis for the production of fuels from sunlight

Penn’s Vagelos Institute for Energy Science and Technology is a partner in a $40 million award from the Department of Energy focused on the production of fuels from sunlight. The Center for Hybrid Approaches in Solar Energy to Liquid Fuels (CHASE), led by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, aims to fill gaps in existing knowledge to allow for development of practical artificial photosynthetic systems.
