Hello Y’all! I’ve been hard at work refactoring the CAS website into a more modern and easy to use WordPress site. The previous system was running into several problems as Filemaker began to break down and updating the site with raw HTML was becoming untenable. Future assistants will now have a much easier time keeping things up to date and, more importantly, be far more agile concerning events/news items to the Center’s members. Previously all events needed to be entered into a Filemaker database so that it could auto format raw HTML, etc. for the old site. When Filemaker started crashing I resulted to manually keeping track of them for the weekly emails.

Thankfully, with WordPress–you’ll have a readily available calendar docked at the side. All events by future assistants can be quickly entered into WordPress, and I created a private page for them to easily copy and paste the next week’s events into an email format.

Additionally, we will have ways to more seamlessly separate CAS sponsored events from events of interest in the area that we typically send out on the weekly emails. Event and announcement tracking should be far easier from now on for all future assistants, and they can use WordPress’ easier to use admin interface to add/make changes and will no longer need to know how to login into secure FTP sites and edit raw nested HTML files.
