Teaching

At the heart of my teaching is my commitment to the work of representation across structures of race, class, gender, sexuality and ability. Students often enter my classrooms with a desire to identify with the  authors and critics we read — immigrant writers of color, as well as scholarship by women and queer of color feminists.  My work as a teacher is to create a range of collaborative learning experiences so that my students can recognize themselves as engaged in the work of scholarship.

Student work in my classes takes a wide range of forms: from independent research papers to public performances; from intimate acts of creating art to collaborative projects online. My teaching is always in conversation with public events and non-profit organizations in the greater Philadelphia region, including the Asian Arts Initiative, Twelve Gates Gallery, and South Asian American Digital Archive.
