Getting Started

  1. Adjust the Site Title and Tagline as appropriate.
Dashboard > Appearance > Customize > Site Identity
  2. Check your account profile and make any needed changes.
Howdy, [User] > Edit My Profile
  3. You’re welcome to keep the original theme (called “Twenty Eleven”). Or you can choose another theme. Various features of a CampusPress site (layout, color scheme, widget areas, and customizations) are dependent on the theme chosen.
    1. Go to Themes (or to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes) and browse the 270 or so themes. Each theme is listed with a small image of how it can look.
    2. Use the “Live Preview” link to see how your existing site would look in a standard configuration of the theme. (Customization can change many features of the standard configuration, and you can play with some of these.)
    3. When you’ve found a likely theme, click the “Activate” button to adopt it. If it doesn’t meet your needs and preferences, find another.
  4. You can check the Plugins and Tools for anything useful.

Your Content

Your site was created from a template that provides several Pages with filler text. Replace the content on these pages with your own content.

  1. Go to a Page and click the “edit” button.
  2. You can use the Visual Editor to edit your pages.
  3. When you’re done editing a page, click the blue “Update” button in the right sidebar.

You can create a new page, and you can delete pages that you don’t need.

Final Steps

  1. Click around and make sure the site is ready for public viewing. (You can make the site private if you need to hide it from the public.)
  2. When you’re ready for the public to visit, arrange for your department to make a link to your site. A link will also allow Google and other search engines find your site.
