ABCRMS Poster Award 2022

Congratulations to Jesus Vazquez Hernandez for winning an award for his poster presentation at ABRCMS 2022 (see pictures below). Jesus completed a summer REU with the Booker lab where he expanded his knowledge of Radical SAM enzymes. During the school year he works with lab alumna, Allison Saunders at Lycoming College. Next, he is excited to tackle graduate school! Great work Jesus!

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!

As Hispanic Heritage month comes to an end, we want to say thanks to the various Climate and Diversity committees on campus for all the fabulous events this past month. But an even bigger thanks for highlighting our amazing colleague, Angel L. Muñoz Hernández!

Highlight in C&En

Check out exciting work from the Booker Lab!  Cody, and coworkers, discovered the answer to a decades-long question at the forefront of archeal research. See below!

2021 is looking bright

2021 has ushered in lots of good news for the Booker lab. Postdoc Arnab Mukherjee has accepted a new job and will be transitioning into that position. Congratulations and good luck! We have also received a few good scores on recent grant submissions that have motivated all of us even more in the laboratory. And lastly, we have welcomed three new graduate students into the Booker Lab. Congrats on starting your graduate career, Jiayuan, Angel and Dante!

To celebrate, Squire hosted a virtual happy hour last week. Thanks for the bubbly, Squire! (photo below)

Non-radical catalysis by TsrM

Congratulations to current and previous Booker lab members Hayley, Anthony, Arnab, Tyler, Erica, and Bo on their recent publication in Nature Chemical Biology. Their publication, in collaboration with the Drennan lab, highlights the structural aspects of the non-radical mechanism of TsrM which is a member of the Class B (Cobalamin dependent) radical SAM methylase subfamily. Check out the story below!
