About the Instructor

Chih-jen “Melvin” Lee

Chih-jen “Melvin” Lee has been a Chinese language lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania since 2005. He received a BA in English language and literature from National Taiwan University and an MA in Asian Studies from Seton Hall University. He is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in East Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Pennsylvania. His teaching experience ranges from beginning level to advanced level classes and is currently coordinating the Beginning Chinese III and IV classes at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a co-author of Speak and Act: Beginning Chinese that is scheduled to publish in June 2021. He started co-teaching the Advanced Medical Chinese course at Penn in 2017 and is currently the sole instructor of this course.
