Text (2): what are wrinkles all about?

Wrinkles are generally considered signs of aging, but are not always so.

Wrinkles can be divided into three types. The first type is postural wrinkles. We are born with wrinkles such as those on the neck. In order to be able to move freely, the skin of the neck will be more abundant, thus forming some wrinkles.

The second is dynamic wrinkles, also known as expression lines, such as canthus crow’s feet. When we are making various expressions, because of the contraction of expression muscles, wrinkles will also form on our faces. When we are young, our skin is elastic and will heal quickly and wrinkles will disappear. After entering middle-age, skin elasticity decreases. It’s harder to restore normal skin and furrows can develop.

The third type is gravity wrinkles. After turning 40, because of muscle relaxation, the skin will gradually prolapse under the action of gravity and form wrinkles. Another common issue is eyelid drooping.

The formation of gravity wrinkles is mainly related to the reduction of collagen content in the skin. Collagen, elastin and other fibers make up the skeleton that supports the skin, making it smooth and elastic. When a person ages, collagen in the skin decreases gradually, the skin can become flaccid, lose flexibility and produce wrinkles.

In addition, skin moisture deficiency, mental factors, lack of sleep, excessive exposure, malnutrition, long-term smoking, drinking, etc., will also accelerate the aging of the skin, leading to premature wrinkles and make the person look old.
