2nd International Symposium on Chinese for Specific Purposes (CSP)

We are delighted to share a recap of the highly successful 2nd International Symposium on Chinese for Specific Purposes (CSP) and Lesson Plan Contest that took place at Penn on May 20, 2023. This symposium was co-organized by the Chinese Language Programs of Penn and Duke University and sponsored by the Center of East Asian Studies and the Penn Global of the University of Pennsylvania.

This hybrid symposium brought together a distinguished gathering of approximately 60 researchers, scholars, and educators from across the globe, creating a dynamic platform for insightful discussions and groundbreaking advancements in the field of Chinese for Specific Purposes.

The Lesson Plan Contest attracted 36 entries, covering topics such as Business, Technology, Occupational, and Medical Chinese. Through an anonymous evaluation procedure, judges from Columbia University, Duke University, UC Santa Barbara, and the University of Virginia awarded 2 First Prizes, 3 Second Prizes, and 6 Third Prizes.

The success of the 2nd International Symposium on Chinese for Specific Purposes not only fostered a vibrant academic environment but also bolstered Penn’s reputation in Chinese language education.
