Jie Ying

Jie Ying is currently a Lecturer in the Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Pennsylvania. She received her M.A. degree in bilingual and bicultural education from Columbia University. Before joining the Chinese Language Program at the University of Pennsylvania, she also taught at Harvard University, Princeton University and Columbia University. She has been teaching Chinese at all levels on both heritage and non-heritage tracks. She has also served as the senior coordinator for Boston University Shanghai Center’s Chinese language program and led teaching teams in Harvard and Princeton’s intensive summer study abroad program in Beijing and United Nations’ summer study program in Nanjing. Her research interests include second language acquisition, teaching methodology, curriculum and multimedia design, instructional technology, creativity and art education.
