Dr. Piersandra Di Matteo is a performing arts researcher, dramaturge and curator. After gaining a PhD in Theatre and Cinema Studies at the University of Bologna, where she also carried out her post-doctoral work, she now teaches Directing at the Fine Arts Academy in Bologna. Her theoretical interests range from post-dramatic theatre to practices in curating, and from linguistics to contemporary philosophy. She has been invited to hold conferences and seminars in international research centres and Universities, including The School of Creative Media/City University of Hong Kong; La Sapienza University of Roma; Shanghai Theatre Academy; La Salle College of the Arts, Singapore; SNDO-School for New Dance Development, Amsterdam. Recently she edited a volume on Castellucci’s work, and authored numerous articles. Alongside acting as a theoretical adviser for artists, she also collaborates with various contemporary arts magazines. Curator of projects dedicated to the performing arts, she was awarded the Ubu Prize for “Best project” for E la volpe disse al corvo (Bologna 2014). She is currently curating for Emilia Romagna Teatri (ERT) Atlas of Transitions. New Geographies for a Cross-cultural Europe, “Creative Europe” (2017-2020).
For years Dr Di Matteo has been Romeo Castellucci’s closest theoretical collaborator and dramaturge, working with him in Europe’s foremost theatres and international festivals.
She currently directs the Master in Curating Performing Arts at IUAV – University of Venice. This semester Dr. Di Matteo is Visiting Fellow at the Martin E. Segal Theatre Center of the City University of New York.
