The Center for Italian Studies at Penn is pleased to announce the 2025/2026 Amici Prize, originally established in 1993.
The Center for Italian Studies at Penn offers an annual award for an undergraduate research project in Italian Studies conducted in Italy under the supervision of a faculty advisor at Penn. The project may be part of one of the university’s approved study-abroad programs, such as the Penn-in-Florence Summer Program.
Applicants may propose a research project in any field of Italian Studies. This project should be based on work that is currently in progress or has already been completed for a class, an independent study, or a senior thesis. The final product will be a paper or thesis, which must be submitted to the Center’s Director within nine months of the end of the trip, along with a description of at least 500 words detailing how the research trip contributed to the development and completion of the research project.
The awarded sum is up to $3,000. Candidates must submit a letter of application (no more than 1500 words) to Professor Ann Moyer by January 31. Your letter should include a description of the project, not to exceed 2 pages; your reasons for applying; relevant course background; any additional experience; and the name of the professor serving as advisor for the project. That advisor must send, separately, a recommendation to Professor Ann Moyer.
