Originally from California, Spenser received his BS in Physics from UCLA and has been at Penn since 2021.

Spenser is broadly interested in theoretical quantum condensed matter physics and quantum information. His current focus is on developing a formalism and elucidating the behavior that occurs in driven, open quantum crystalline systems, and on calculating observable response properties of condensed matter systems to experimentally relevant stimuli. He is particularly interested in extending this work to realize exotic non-equilibrium states on tunable quantum simulators such as quantum computers with measurement and reset protocols. Some of his previous work has focused on the classification of topological phases and phase transitions and the modeling of driven quantum information systems.

In his spare time, Spenser runs marathons, cooks, and looks after his pet frog.
