Thomas A. Scott Professor of Mathematics
Ron Donagi, Professor of Mathematics and Physics, is the Thomas A. Scott Professor of Mathematics. Donagi is an internationally renowned scholar of algebraic geometry and string theory. His work is on the forefront of major research efforts in geometry, symplectic topology, quantum field theory, string theory and phenomenology, and the study of integrable models in condensed matter theory. Several of his former students are among the leaders in these fields. He has authored more than 100 research articles and seven books. His research has been supported by numerous National Science Foundation grants, and he is the co-recipient of a $10 million Simons Collaboration Grant to prove the Homological Mirror Symmetry Conjecture, one of mathematics’ outstanding open problems. Donagi has been selected as a Simons Fellow in the Mathematical Sciences, as Deputy Director of the prominent Simons Collaboration in Homological Mirror Symmetry, and as a fellow of the American Mathematical Society.
About the Donor
The Thomas A. Scott Professorship of Mathematics was established in 1881 by Thomas Alexander Scott, who served as the nation’s assistant secretary of war from 1861 until 1862 and later became president of the Pennsylvania Railroad.
