Thomas S. Gates, Jr., C’28, HON’56

This chair was established in honor of the late Thomas S. Gates, Jr., C’28, HON’56 in 1976. Gates was secretary of defense in President Eisenhower’s administration and chief of the United States Liaison Office in China under President Ford. He was a member of the University’s Board of Trustees and received Penn’s Alumni Award of Merit in 1959.
