Dr. Gieré’s lab in the Department of Earth and Environmental Science of the University of Pennsylvania publishes on a wide spectrum of topics. These topics span fields such as geochemistry, mineralogy, energy and waste, and environmental health. Some specific interests include urban road dust analysis, asbestos pollution and toxicology, lithium recovery and associated environmental impacts, microplastics in the freshwater environment, and nuclear energy waste.

The Lab is located in Hayden Hall, pictured in the background. The lab collaborates intensively with other entities on campus such as the Singh Center for Nanotechnology and the Center for Excellence in Environmental Toxicology. International collaboration is a key aspect of the lab as well, including with researchers in Italy, Germany, France, Uganda, Slovakia and many other countries. Examples of places where field work has taken place are Italy, USA, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Portugal, and many other locales.
