Under-5 Mortality Database (U5MD)

The Under-5 Mortality Database (U5MD) provides age-specific death rates and probabilities of dying by detailed age (weeks, months, trimesters, years) between 0 and 5 years, for 25 countries with high quality vital registration data, from 1841 until 2016.

To access the U5MD, please fill out this user agreement form online.

More details about how the U5MD was constructed can be found in the article “Modeling Age Patterns of Under-5 Mortality: Results From a Log-Quadratic Model Applied to High-Quality Vital Registration Data” published in Demography. The full protocol for the U5MD is in the online appendix of the article (see Supplementary Materials 1).

R Code for log-quadratic model

Download the coefficients associated with the log-quadratic model presented in the article “Modeling Age Patterns of Under-5 Mortality: Results From a Log-Quadratic Model Applied to High-Quality Vital Registration Data” published in Demography.

Download the R code that replicates the coefficients of the log-quadratic model.

An R package implementing the log-quadratic model is available at https://github.com/verhulsta/logquad5q0.
