On October 30th 2014, Tessanne Chin, winner of NBC’s The Voice: Season 5 stopped at World Café Live, University City to perform for Philadelphia. It was the opportunity for her to present her newly released sophomore Album “Count on My Love” to the fans and music-lovers present that night. Count on my love is a cross-genre album with pop, soul, r’n’b and even Reggae influences. From Reggae ballad, Everything Reminds Me of You, to soulful Tumbling Down, Tessanne Chin, her exceptional band, and her backup singer gave a performance that sounded even better than the studio recording. That night the audience got to know more about Tessanne Chin’s personal life as she told the story of how moving around shaped her as a person and as a songwriter. The audience was also able to get a taste of Jamaica, due to the large turnout of the Jamaican diaspora, waving flags and even singing popular Jamaican songs at one point. The evening was even topped up by an impromptu performance by Voice-mate Matthew Schuler who gave a beautiful rendition of Loenard Cohens, Hallelujah. Chin’s melodious and powerful voice, as well as her energetic, performance was a perfect ending to my week.
