Our Vision

Community School Student Partnerships aims to engage West Philadelphia scholars in their educational experiences and help Penn students become dedicated advocates of the West Philadelphia Community.

WHAT DO WE DO?

In both our in-school and after-school programs, our mentors:

Form strong personal bonds with our scholars by providing a consistent, trusted presence

Establish working relationships with teachers by addressing any needs in and out of the classroom

+ much more!

The Netter Center at the University of Pennsylvania

CSSP operates within the Netter Center, a hub for civic engagement.

Among other goals, the Netter Center aims to “[bring] together the resources and assets of both the University and the wider community to help solve universal problems such as poverty, health inequities, environmental sustainability, and inadequate, unequal education as they are manifested in the University’s local geographic area of West Philadelphia and Philadelphia at large.”

education in philadelphia

The eighth largest school district in the nation, the Philadelphia School District serves over 200,000 students in 339 different schools.  Despite historical inequities in public school funding and resources, the district remains committed to providing an excellent education for children throughout the city. Our mentors support learning at five West Philadelphia Schools: Andrew Hamilton School, Sayre High School, Lea Elementary School, Comegys Elementary School, and Mitchell Elementary School.
