Since 2017, we have been partnering with FilmAid Kenya, a nonprofit that runs film schools in two refugee camps in Kenya.
Three Films about Music and the Kakuma Refugees Camp in Kenya
In the summer of 2023, we partnered with FilmAid Kenya to make 3 films about music and politics in the Kakuma Refugee Camp. One film focuses on Darfurian composers. Another tells the story of a Burundi talking drum teacher. The third film highlights the talent and struggles of the first South Sudanese woman hip-hop dancer and singer in the camp.



Filmmaking Basics: An Online Filmmaking Course by Refugees for Refugees
In the summer of 2022, we partnered with FilmAid Kenya to turn their film training program into an online course, teaching filmmaking to refugees and other displaced communities.

The Kalobeyei Refugee Settlement (360 films)
In 2017, we traveled to the Kalobeyei Refugee Settlement in Kenya and tried to capture this new experiment in refugee relocation with a 360-degree film. Six years later, Prof. Peter Decherney returned to see how things had changed, making a second short 360-degree film diary.
