Abstract: The early 1900s was a tremendously important time for the development of mathematical logic and rigor in mathematics. Arguably, the most influential force during this time was Hilbert with his program, now known as ‘Hilbert’s Program’. Hilbert strongly desired to put math on a solid foundation and settle the question about the foundations of math once and for all. In this talk, we’ll discuss the program, its aims and philosophy, from the finitism to the formalism. We’ll also discuss the famous Incompleteness theorems and their impact on the success of Hilbert’s program.
