We will discuss how the Dirac operator links the topology and geometry of manifolds with and without boundary.  Along the way, we discover how to tell when a manifold does not admit a Riemannian metric of positive scalar curvature, and how to tell when one such metric can be deformed into another, maintaining positive scalar curvature throughout.
