PCTC

In 2015, recognizing a lack of theoretical chemistry conferences on the East Coast, several faculty members at the University of Pennsylvania set out to establish a regional forum where researchers could share ideas, present their work, and build a stronger sense of community. While national and international collaborations remained important, there was a clear need for a dedicated space to support scientists working locally—both established leaders and early-career researchers.

The Penn Conference in Theoretical Chemistry (PCTC) was founded that year by Dr. Abraham Nitzan, Dr. Andrew Rappe, Dr. Jeff Saven, and Dr. Joseph Subotnik. From its inception through 2018, PCTC served as a hub for rigorous scientific exchange and interdisciplinary dialogue. After a pause due to the global pandemic, the conference returned in 2025 with renewed energy and a continued commitment to fostering collaboration and connection within the theoretical chemistry community.

We’re excited to continue building on that momentum. Whether you’re a returning participant or joining us for the first time, we hope PCTC offers you a welcoming space to engage with new ideas, share your research, and connect with fellow scientists. Keep an eye on your inbox—we’ll be announcing the dates for the next PCTC soon!
