Biomedical Data Science Seminar Series: “Personalized Neuroimaging Biomarkers of Cardiovascular Risk Factors: Insights into Neuropathology and Potential for Precision Medicine” (Sindhuja Tirumalai Govindarajan)

December 6, 2023
4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

John Morgan Building, Reunion Auditorium

Abstract: Midlife cardiovascular risk factors interact to drive neuropathological changes detectable on structural MRI as tissue atrophy or white matter hyperintensities. Characterizing risk-associated neuroimaging signatures offers insights into underlying neuropathologic processes and provide in vivo biomarkers for personalized risk assessment, measurement of disease progression and treatment effects. During this talk, I will present a panel of personalized MRI biomarkers derived using machine learning on a large harmonized multi-study imaging dataset of diverse cohorts.

Bio: Dr. Sindhuja T Govindarajan is an Alzheimer’s Association Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania under the mentorship of Dr. Christos Davatzikos, investigating the contributions of lifetime risk factors to neurodegeneration and dementia. She received her doctorate in Biomedical Engineering from Stony Brook University in December 2020. For her contributions to science and leadership, she was awarded the John Marburger III Fellowship for Science, Engineering and Mathematics in 2020, and was recognized as a President’s Distinguished Doctoral fellow in 2021. Sindhuja is also a passionate advocate for early career researchers, holding elected leadership positions to foster peer-mentorship at the university and international level.
