I am a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania. In my dissertation project I trace the ideological development of Swedish Social Democracy from the 1880s to the 1980s. I argue that existing accounts significantly underestimate the continued influence of Marxism on the party well into the postwar era. By reconstructing ideological debates within the Swedish Labor Movement, I show how the ideological formation of social democracy is contingently conditioned by historically shifting political and economic circumstances. Drawing on archival sources from the Swedish Labor Movement Archive, I analyze this ideological development, focusing on struggles over the meaning of socialism.

More broadly, my research interests include democratization, de-democratization, and political economy.

I have occassionally written essays for Danish newspapers on topics such as the distinction between public and private in politics, European immigration, and Black Lives Matter.
