Melissa Grenier

President
Advisor: Dr. Smith

Hello! My name is Melissa Grenier and I’m an advanced graduate student studying organic chemistry under Professor Amos B. Smith, III.  My research involves the design and synthesis of small molecules that inhibit HIV-1 entry and sensitize HIV-1 infected cells to an important immune response called ADCC.  I grew up in a small village outside Albany, NY and came down to the Philadelphia area almost a decade ago to attend Villanova University where I studied chemistry. Then, after a brief co-op in medicinal chemistry at GlaxoSmithKline, I began graduate school here at Penn where I became involved in WiC as a first-year. Today, I’m president of the group and excited about the great opportunities we offer female chemists to promote their success!
