An Art and Archaeology of the Mediterranean World (AAMW) Colloquium. In-person attendance at the Penn Museum, Classroom L1, lunch included.
Abstract
“The mountainous terrain of the South Caucasus was an important interaction zone of the Ancient Near East. Thus, this area provides opportunities to better understand how past local lived experiences were impacted by interregional relationships. This talk will present the results of three seasons of survey and excavation within the mountain-plain intersection zone of the Vedi River Valley in Armenia, and particularly at the site of the Vedi Fortress that defends the entrance to the Valley. The talk will also introduce public outreach and educational efforts with the local community, especially Armenian schoolchildren. The speaker is an AAMW alum, prior lecturer for CAAM, and a Kolb Fellow.”
