Abstract:

“For more than a century, Egyptian mummies have fascinated both scholars and museum visitors. But recently, questions about the ethics of displaying human remains in museums have been raised. How can we share the richness of ancient Egyptian funerary beliefs and traditions without compromising the dignity of the individuals at their center?

In this talk and workshop, we’ll explore how modern imaging, scanning, and 3D-printing technologies make it possible to study mummification scientifically and share discoveries with the public while respecting the people behind them.”
