Penn State, CAMS: “The Politics of the Roman Slave Revolts”

October 17, 2025
4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Speaker: Dr. Dominic Machado, Associate Professor of Classics, College of the Holy Cross

This event presented by Penn State’s Department of Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies will be held on Friday, October 17th from 4pm – 5:30pm in 102 Weaver Building.

Abstract:

“The talk will examine how the slave revolts of the late second and early first century BCE shaped different aspects of the politics of the Late Republic. As such, it issues a challenge to the dominant view that Roman politics operated from the top-down and examines the strategies that the elite used to consolidate power.”
