What is your policy on recycling?

Penn Chemistry Computing is an advocate of environmentally-friendly recycling practices. Our department has a recycling area located on the I-level of the freight elevator.

The recycling area consists of a section for old lab hardware and electronic equipment, and two sections for computer-related hardware.

For recycling computer-related hardware, please email us at help@chem.upenn.edu or bring the equipment to our Chemistry Computing office (Room 116). We coordinate regular pickups and note the items that are being disposed. If there are any hard drive in the computers, we will be able to remove and wipe the data securely before recycling.

Some old electronic equipment that can be recycled on the rack include:

– printers

– phones

– appliances

Where do I deposit old electronic equipment?

Please send in an email to Chem Computing (help@chem.upenn.edu) with the items you are disposing. Computers and any electronics can be arranged for a drop-off at the Chemistry Computing office in Chem ’73 116.

Note: If the appliance is very large, please let us know ahead of time before directly placing this beside the rack.

If there are any questions on what to recycle at the rack, please email us!

Where do I deposit used or expired printer toner cartridges?

Unused, used, and expired printer toner cartridges can be deposited in the large recycle bin seen here. The bin is located just off the freight elevator on the I-level.

Where can I recycle old batteries?

Old batteries can be disposed of in the Chemistry Stockroom in the bin beside the copier.
