In July 2015, McGill University hosted a two day symposium entitled BNK 25: Milestones in Music in which three pathbreaking books published in 1990 were celebrated. These books were Albert Bregman’s Auditory Scene Analysis: The Perceptual Organization of Sound; Carol Lynne Krumhansl’s The Cognitive Foundations of Musical Pitch; and Eugene Narmour’s The Analysis and Cognition of Basic Melodic Structures: The Implication-Realization Model. At this symposium, Narmour also gave a lecture entitled “Extensions and revisions of the Implication-Realization model: Toward an omnibus theory of analogical structures from perception to social psychology”.
