How does the syntax of a language change over time?
Professor Anthony Kroch is a linguist who studies historical syntax.
Some of the fundamental questions that Professor Kroch is interested in include:
- How and why do grammars change over time?
- What can we learn about such changes through statistical analysis of the language of historical documents?
Professor Kroch has compiled various annotated corpora with collaborators to gain insight into the development of grammar in languages over time. He is also interested in the syntax semantics interface, and particularly the implications for the architecture of grammar revealed by the analysis of copular sentences.
