Dr. Alison McCarthy

Alison McCarthy, originally from central New Jersey, earned her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from The College of New Jersey in 2017 and a doctoral degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Stony Brook University with a joint affiliation at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Her graduate research focused on the design and architecture of electrodes in lithium-ion batteries and beyond lithium-ion battery systems. 
 
She is currently a Penn Provost’s postdoctoral fellow in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania and is co-advised by James Pikul. Her postdoctoral research focuses on studying lithium metal mechanics within a battery. At Penn she works with the Penn postdoc associations advocacy committee and serves on the executive board as their NPA liaison. She is currently one of 12 volunteer postdocs serving on the National Postdoc Association’s Postdoc Council. 
 
Outside of the lab, Alison enjoys reading, attending live concerts and events, and watching the latest television shows.
