Amy Metlay grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Chicago, where she received her B.S. in Chemistry. During her undergraduate career, Amy focused her research on the synthesis and material testing of liquid crystal networks under the mentorship of Professor Stuart Rowan at the Institute of Molecular Engineering.

Currently, as a graduate student in the Mallouk group, Amy is developing redox couples for flow batteries in collaboration with the Mindiola group at Penn, where she is a joint researcher.

Outside of the research lab, Amy enjoys reading.
