Postdoctoral researcher

Office: Chem 58 Room 289

Dr. Shunta Nishioka grew up in the town of Fukuoka, Japan. He completed his undergraduate degree at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, where he received his B.S. with Engineering. He completed his PhD under the supervision of Prof. Kazuhiko Maeda in the Department of Chemistry, Tokyo Institute of Technology. During his research career, Shunta studied water-splitting photocatalysts. Particularly, he investigated the effects of oxygen defect formation in oxide semiconductors on photocatalytic water splitting reactions. His PhD work received a doctoral dissertation award in Tokyo Tech.
Currently, as a postdoc in the Mallouk group, Shunta focuses his research on excited carrier dynamics of photocatalysts. He is studying transient absorption (TA) in powder suspensions with a diffuse reflectance system.
Outside of the research lab, Shunta enjoys watching movies, listening to music and playing music (he is quite good at playing the drums). In his free time, he studies english to watch movies without subtitles.
