Zhifei Yan grew up in Wuhan, China. He completed his undergraduate degree at China University of Geosciences, where he received B.S. During his undergraduate career, Zhifei did research on computational simulation of organic molecules in confined space.

Currently, as a graduate student in the Mallouk group, Zhifei focuses his research on the aspect of ion management in electrochemical energy conversion and storage.
