Resurgent Authoritarian Influence Data & Forecasts

The Resurgent Authoritarian Influence (RAI) dataset builds on the broader Machine Learning for Peace (MLP) infrastructure to track Russian and Chinese foreign influence around the world. Specifically, RAI provides data on the incidence of reporting on 22 events indicative of Russian and Chinese influence across international, regional, and domestic sources of online news. We developed a highly customized web scraping approach to collect detailed data from a large number of domestic news sources in more than 56 countries and use machine learning to read and classify each article according to our 22 RAI event categories.

From this page, you can access three data dashboards that allow you to explore the RAI data, compare changes in reporting on these events over time and across countries, and view forecasts predicting when and where RAI activity is likely to increase over the next seven months.
