Political News and Opinion Lab

We are a group of researchers who conduct studies about how voters learn about issues from the news and how they form their opinions on various topics. This group is headed by Professor Matt Levendusky. Currently, undergraduate students Liza Crichton and Leah Hess, as well as Dom Stecula, a post-doctoral researcher at the Annenberg Public Policy Center, also help supervise these projects.

For an example of the types of research we do, please consult this paper by Professor Levendusky, or see his webpage.  You can also follow us on Twitter and Facebook.

We are currently recruiting subjects for our study of how discussion shapes people’s political attitudes. We conduct the studies in the Philadelphia metro area, and they take approximately 1 hour. Study participants are asked to fill out two brief questionnaires, read a short newspaper article, and talk about in a small group.

If you’re interested in finding out more about our upcoming studies, check out Our Current Study page.

If you are interested in participating, or for more information, please send us an email ; we can be reached at opinionlab (at) sas (dot) upenn (dot) edu. If you can’t make this session, but would like to be notified of future sessions, please send us an email: we’ll have a number of additional sessions in 2019!
