This month the Wagner Lab celebrated Sammy’s and Run’s birthday. Sammy also presented some of her work for the Genomics and Computational Biology graduate program titled “Improving Resolution of Transcriptional Complex ChIP-Seq using Blacklisting in Arabidopsis“.
Dr. Doris Wagner is honored as a recipient of this year’s Fellow of American Society of Plant Biologists (ASBP) Award along side four other colleagues. The Fellow of ASPB Award was established in 2007 and is “granted in recognition of distinguished and long-term contributions to plant biology and service to the Society by current members in areas that include research, education, mentoring, outreach, and professional and public service.”
One of our favorite undergraduate students Renee Hastings turned 22 years of age! A song and scrumptious cake of all different flavors was served at lab meeting to celebrate!
Beginning January 1, 2019, Dr. Doris Wagner along with Dr. Claudia Köhler have agreed to become Editors-in-Chief of the journal Current Opinion in Plant Biology.
The Biology Grad Student Extravaganza featured a host of lightening talks by first-year graduate students plus a keynote talk from this year’s Biology Retreat poster champion and Wagner Lab 5th-year graduate student, Run Jin. Her talk was titled: Identification of LEAFY, a plant transcription factor that determines floral cell fate, as pioneer transcription factor in Arabidopsis thaliana.
Samantha Klasfeld along with a few other graduate students volunteered their time as Science Fair Judges for the Lower School Fair for 4th and 5th grades. It was a unique opportunity to see the local school’s science program, support the love of science learning and chat with some of the junior scientists.
This semester, lab member Run Jin is teaching a Superlab (authentic research conducted by undergrads) on PIR and PRC2 in Arabidopsis (funded by NSF MCB MCB-1614355)
At the University of Pennsylvania Biology Department Retreat, Run Jin was awarded $300 for her spectacular poster titled “Identification of LEAFY, a plant transcription factor that determines floral cell fate, as pioneer transcription factor in Arabidopsis thaliana.” She used a portion of her prize winnings to buy the lab donuts which makes us very pleased.
Dr. Doris Wagner spoke to students about Epigenetics in plants at the Friends Central High School Biology in a lab class taught by Dr. Sonia Chin.
