The primary objective of Diversity Equity Engagement at Penn in STEM (DEEPenn STEM) is to ensure that undergraduate students from disadvantaged backgrounds characterized by limited access to information and resources related to graduate school opportunities have equal access to explore post-baccalaureate opportunities in STEM.
Organized by current graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and staff from STEM departments across the University of Pennsylvania campus with the support of faculty and higher level administrators, we hope this initiative will encourage and inspire students to pursue graduate training and/or research in STEM. Over the course of 3-days, we unravel the intricacies of the graduate school application process, expose participants to cutting edge research in diverse STEM fields, and facilitate invaluable conversations. In addition to our commitment to advancing students’ academic pursuits, DEEPenn STEM cultivates a community where participants can connect, network, and build lasting relationships. Through peer mentoring and professional development workshops, we provide not just a roadmap, but a comprehensive toolkit for success. Although our goals are bold, they are rooted in a vision of 1) fostering a diverse community, 2) equal access to success, and 3) actively involving everyone in meaningful educational and professional experiences.
Consider exploring with us as we reshape the journey to STEM excellence.
