Paul Schmidt, Professor of Biology, is the Patricia M. Williams Term Professor of Biology. A leading scholar in evolutionary biology, Dr. Schmidt’s research is focused on ecological and evolutionary genetics, with an emphasis on rapid adaptation and evolutionary response to climate change. His research has received support from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health, as well as foundation grants from the Bingham Trust and the American Federation for Aging Research. Dr. Schmidt has an exceptional history of dedication to service, not only in key departental roles such as Associate Chair, Undergraduate Chair, and executive committee member, but also at the University level, including as NCAA Faculty Athletic Representative, Chair of the University’s Committee on Academic and Related Affairs, as Faculty Liaison to the Trustees Committee on Academic Policy, as Chair, and as Chair of the Title IX Committee. He also mentors student research through the Penn FERBS and Penn First Plus programs, the Perelman School of Medicine PASS Program, the Provost’s Undergraduate Research Mentoring Program, and many others.
