Camille Charles
Walter H. and Leonore C. Annenberg Professor in the Social Sciences
Camille Zubrinsky Charles is the Walter H. and Leonore C. Annenberg Professor in the Social Sciences. The appointment recognizes Dr. Charles’ distinguished scholarship in urban inequality and race and ethnic relations as well as her outstanding service to the Sociology and Africana Studies Departments and Penn Arts & Sciences. She served as Director of the Center for Africana Studies for nine years, as well as chaired the Faculty Senate. She is a founding faculty co-director for Penn First Plus and Professor of Sociology, Africana Studies, and Education.
Charles’ research interests are in the areas of urban inequality, racial attitudes and intergroup relations, racial residential segregation, minorities in higher education, and racial identity.
