Jared Farmer
Walter H. Annenberg Professor of History
Jared Farmer is the Walter H. Annenberg Professor of History. Farmer is an environmental historian with temporal expertise in the 19th century and regional expertise in the American West. He is the author of three books and the recipient of nine book awards, including the Francis Parkman Prize. He has received grants from the National Humanities Center, the American Council of Learned Societies, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and the American Academy in Berlin. In 2014, he won the Hiett Prize in the Humanities, and in 2017, he was named an Andrew Carnegie Fellow. Farmer joined Penn in January 2020 from Stony Brook University.
