Yoichiro Mori
Calabi-Simons Professor in Mathematics and Biology
Yoichiro Mori is the Calabi-Simons Professor in Mathematics and Biology. An expert in mathematical physiology and biophysics, as well as applied and numerical analysis, Mori is an internationally recognized leader in the application of mathematics to important problems in biology and biophysics. After completing medical school at the University of Tokyo, he obtained a Ph.D. in mathematics from New York University. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of British Columbia and a professor at the University of Minnesota for 11 years before joining Penn. He is the recipient of several distinguished fellowships and awards, including the Leslie Fox Prize in Numerical Analysis, the McKnight Land Grant Professorship, and the Sloan Foundation Fellowship.

The Calabi-Simons Professorship in Mathematics and Biology was established jointly by The Simons Foundation and Eugenio and Giuliana Calabi to recruit a faculty member to hold a joint appointment between the Departments of Biology and Mathematics.
